Do you need a Retinal Examination?

If you have any of the following

• Blurry vision
• Problems with vision
• Sees straight lines as if they were wavy/kinked or distorted (metamorphopsia)
• Sees flashing lights
• Sees floating shapes in their vision
• Is missing small central areas of central vision (scotoma)
  

You should have your eyes examined by an eye care professional as soon as possible as you may be displaying symptoms of age-related macular degeneration or other significant retinal conditions. Early detection and treatment is very important and these symptoms should not be ignored or considered as part of the aging process. 

We recommend using the Amsler Grid Eye Exam which is a simple and easy to use eye test to perform in the comfort of your own home. This grid is a useful guide but should not be depended on for any diagnosis.

The Amsler Grid is a simple, easy to use, eye check to perform in the comfort of your own home. This grid is a useful guide but should not be depended on for any diagnosis.

Amsler Grid Eye Exam

All you need to do is follow the instructions below:

1. Look at the grid and hold the page at normal reading distance
2. If you normally wear reading glasses put them on.
3. Close one eye. Focus on the dot at the centre of the grid with your open eye.  Then look for any wavy, distorted or blurry lines.
3. Repeat with the other eye.
