Dr Mayer is a retinal and macular diseases specialist. He offers advanced diagnosis and treatment options and has considerable experience in routine and complex ophthalmic surgery and sub-specialises in the medical and surgical treatment of retinal disorders.


He graduated from the University of Oxford Medical School in the UK, with a research degree in neural transplantation from the University of Cambridge.  He began ophthalmic training and obtainied the Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) early in 1998. Dr Mayer undertook a vitreo-retinal Fellowship at Bristol Eye Hospital, between 2001 and 2003 and completed his higher surgical training in 2003.


Prior to relocating to Australia and joining Vision Group, Dr Mayer worked as a Consultant Ophthalmic and Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon and a University Senior Lecturer in the UK.


Dr Mayer has a number of influential peer-reviewed journal publications in ophthalmology and neuroscience. He has reviewed papers and research grants for leading medical journals and organisations and conducted research in areas including eye disease, surgery, prosthetics and the nervous system.


Dr Mayer provides his specialist services at the Vision Retinal Institute, Eastern and Vision Eye Institute, Blackburn South.
